Footstool Workshop - Traditional Joinery & Shaker Weaving
Over the course of two consecutive Saturdays (June 20th and June 27), you will make your own wooden footstool with a woven seat. The course runs from 9am to 5pm on both days. You only book the first day (June 20th) , the other day (June 27th) is included. On the first day, you will shave rough blanks into rungs and posts for your footstool. This will be done with a drawknife, on a shave horse. Between the two Saturdays the rungs will be drying in a lightbulb kiln. This means that they will expand slightly after assembly for a rock-solid joint with no glue. On the second day, you will make the mortise-and-tenon joints, assemble the stool, apply beeswax polish and finally weave a shaker tape seat. You will leave with a beautiful piece of furniture that you can be proud of.
